This sacred vocation for women in the Catholic Church is a calling from the Lord to live as a “bride of Christ,” one set apart with approval from the Church to live in a state of perpetual virginity and mystical espousal for the Kingdom of God as defined in the Code of Canon Law c. 604.

Since the Apostolic Age in the first century through modern times, women in the Church have responded to God’s call to embody the image of the heavenly Bride and the eternal life that is to come.
